Since its opening in 1986, Starr Pass has established itself as the premier desert golf course in the Tucson area. The Robert Cupp designed golf course winds through valleys and arroyos and meanders among the bluffs of the Tucson Mountains. Strict attention was paid to disrupting the natural surroundings as little as possible, and the finished product is the Southwest's most inviting desert golf experience. A round of golf here takes you through desert washes, over mountain passes, and into box canyons. The experience will be one to remember. "Starr Pass" is the local name of the niche in the Tucson Mountains that this dynamic course occupies. The desert-stadium designed course was by Robert Cupp and utilizes existing desert terrain to create natural hazards and showcases nature's handiwork. This results in contrasts of lush, manicured green grass set against dark porous rock and cactus. The tight fairways favor a straight shot. Each hole has four different tee boxes, allowing the player to select a longer or shorter course, depending on the level of experience or bravery. Many hole designs allow the selection of an iron shot or a shorter wood off the tee. Located in the foothills of the Tucson Mountains on the city's west side, The facility includes a full-service clubhouse with dining facilities, a locker room, and a pro shop. The course conditions, featuring bent-grass greens, are maintained to PGA tour standards yearround. Flowing in harmony with the desert terrain, Starr Pass is labeled both fair and difficult by players. Number 15 is the signature hole where hitting through a narrow pass on a 325-yard, par 4 appears simple, but look out! Play the course the pros played, and be treated to superior service.
